Munnar, India

by Benjamin Silverberg

(Family Medicine Physician)

Benjamin Silverberg is a Family Medicine physician at WVU Medicine. He joined the medical faculty at West Virginia University as an Assistant Professor in 2016, where he holds a dual appointment in the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine, and works in Student Health, Travel Medicine, and Urgent Care. In 2018, he became the Medical Director of the Physician Assistant Studies training program at WVU. His interest in Global Health began with a "gap year" spent as a volunteer English teacher in Ecuador. He has had extensive travel experience, though he has yet to make it to Antarctica. Nonetheless, these trips abroad have proven useful during his pre-departure consultations with travelers, as anecdotes and humor can make all the difference.

This photo was taken in January 2017 outside of Munnar in the Kerala state of India. Endless rows of tea plants cover the rolling hills. Trees and boulders pepper the landscape. Visitors to the area can tour small plantation buildings where the leaves are dried and packaged for sale.
